How to Layer Short Hair: Step by Step Process
Step 1: Damp Hair
Getting short hair with layers is not easy. When it comes to layer short hair, you better keep the hair a little wet. So, before getting prepared for the layered short haircuts, make sure that you are washing your hair and conditioning it properly. After that, towel-dry your hair and get ready!
Step2: Divide Sections
For short layered hair, use a rat tail comb. You have to divide your hair. You have to make three parts of your hair- one on the right, one on the left and the other in the middle. Now, divide the hair on the middle into two parts creating a TOP BOX. This will stay on either side of the crown of your head.
You have to comb the front part of the middle section or the top box forward. Keep the back part straight down. If you want to create amazing short layered hairstyles, you have to be very careful about the TOP BOX.
Step 3: Cut it down
Now, for creating short hair with layers, you have to create the perfect angle. First, you have to cut the front part of the middle section.
Layered short haircuts look great but keeping the right angle is necessary. All you have to do is lift this hair at a 90-degree angle from the head. Hold the hair properly. It will stay between the middle finger and the forefinger. Keep your fingers perpendicular to the head.
Go for sharp scissors for layers in hair and first trim down the tip of the hair. Now section by section, trim the top of the hair until they exactly of the same length. You can keep some hair from the previous section in the next section. This can be a guide for the length for creating the perfect short hairstyles like layer.
Step 4: Part down Hair
So now, you are done with the top box for making layers in hair. Now again, divide your hair with the help of a comb from the middle. It’s time to trim the hair of the sides. For the short layered hairstyles, start trimming from the front and end at the back. Keep the hair between your fingers like before and keep the finger perpendicular to the head. Trim using the scissors.
Step 5: Check-Up
Now, you are done with the short hair cut. Comb your hair. All you have to do is take a mirror and see if everything is right or not. Look if there is any uneven section of hair or not. Use scissors to cut it and check it again!
Things to Avoid
- Don’t keep the hair in 45-degree or 30-degree angle
- Don’t use blunt scissors
- Avoid using regular combs for combing hair while trimming
- Don’t cut your hair with one mirror
- Avoid using one scissor only
